Dun Holm Challenge - Day 1
Day 1 of the Dun Holm Challenge is a trail running event at Durham Amateur Rowing Club on the River Wear. It is the first of a series of five events and the course includes signed riverside paths with views of the Cathedral. The route is classified as trail and is on public footpaths.
The event is run as a 7 hour Time Challenge that allows entrants to choose how many laps to complete. The minimum distance recorded is 5 km, which forms part of a full lap. A full lap is 4.37 miles (7 km). Organisers may use an alternative 3.28 mile course and will confirm the route closer to the event.
Available distances:
- 3 km
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half Marathon
- Marathon
- 50 km
- Ultra Marathon
- Time Challenge (7 hour)
Finishers who complete at least one lap receive a Durham-inspired medal. Distance pins are awarded for half-marathon distance and above, and one pin is attached to the medal ribbon to reflect the achievement. Finishers receive a goody bag; a vegan goody bag is available on request. An aid table and drinks table are provided at the start/finish of each lap with a range of drinks and snacks, including vegan options.
Facilities at race HQ include toilets and changing areas. A bag drop is available but unstaffed and items are left at the participant's own risk. There is pay and display parking in the city centre and nearby streets; participants must not use the rowing club car park. Final race instructions are issued by email before the event and numbers are picked up on the day at race registration. Headphones are allowed and participants are asked to be considerate of other path users. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
