The Big Cheese is an off-road fell race in Cheddar, Somerset on 12 April 2026. The course is 15 miles long with over 2000 ft of climbing across the Mendip Hills. The race is TRA licensed and will be run under UK Athletics rules. It is classified as Fell Race Category B and the course is fully marked and marshalled. A medal and tea and cake are included with entry.

Race details and route

The start is at the bottom of Warrens Hill, just over one mile from Fairlands Middle School. The first two miles run straight up onto the Mendips. The finish and race HQ are at Fairlands Middle School, Masons Way, Cheddar BS27 3PG. Water stations are provided at miles 4, 7 and 11, with snacks including some vegan options. The event has a four hour cut off and a sweeper will follow the field. Parts of the course use paths that are not public rights of way.

Logistics and facilities

Registration opens on 12 April 2026 at Fairlands Middle School. Runners must be over 18 on the day. Facilities at Race HQ include baggage storage, changing, showers, toilets (also at Warrens Hill), and an indoor seating area. There is no mandatory kit list; organisers will advise in extreme weather. Parking is in the main Cheddar village car park next to the Riverside pub (around a ten minute walk; 129 spaces, all day parking charged). Total places 350; event status listed as open. Take on the Wiltshire 10, a scenic 10 mile road race from Melksham to historic Lacock and back, with medals for all finishers and age category prizes. Entries capped at 300, book before 1 February 2026 as no entries on race day.

Races start and finish at Brickfields Park in Bath and run through the Two Tunnels, offering distances from 500m Colourburst to 50km ultra, marked routes, feed stations and a charity contribution to Sustrans.
