The Bear Chase

The Bear Chase is a multi-distance trail running festival held October 3-4, 2026 at Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood, Colorado. The event program includes multiple trail distances over a weekend and takes place on park trails around Big Soda Lake Beach.

Distances

  • 100K 62.2 miles
  • 50 Mile 50.0 miles
  • 50K 31.1 miles
  • Half Marathon 13.1 miles
  • 10K 6.1 miles
  • 5K 3.1 miles

Most of the courses run on soft-surface singletrack and crusher-fine trails; select distances include short sections of asphalt. Several races are run as repeated loop circuits (for example, the 100K is five laps of the Orange loop and the 50M is four laps). Total elevation gain varies by distance.

Aid stations are positioned around the loops and at the Start/Finish; offerings include water, endurance fuel, soda, and a mix of sweet and salty foods. Drop bags are permitted at the Start/Finish area. Crew assistance on course is restricted; crew and spectators may provide support only at the Start/Finish. Pacers are permitted for the longer events under specific check-in and conduct rules, while pacers are not allowed for shorter distances.

Event logistics note complementary park entry for runners prior to the race, designated parking areas, on-course medical support, and rules that require staying on marked trails and carrying appropriate equipment for low-light conditions. Time limits and rolling cutoffs apply. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
