The Beacon Bash takes place on Sunday 7 December 2025 at Appley Bridge Scout Hut, Appley Lane North, WN6 9AD. The event is described as a charity challenge and raises money for Appley Bridge Scouts and The Brick Wigan. Entry was limited; the event shows 400 participants and an entry fee of £20 plus a booking fee. Minimum age is 18 or older.
Course and logistics
The route is just over 20 miles in length with 2345 ft of elevation. Most of the course is on footpaths with some road sections and several main road crossings. The route will be marked with black/yellow tape but participants must navigate using GPS or the downloadable roadbook; there are no marshals on the route. A water stop is provided at 12 miles at the top of Parbold Hill. There is an intermediate cut-off at Parbold Hill and a finish cut-off.
Parking is available roadside along Appley Lane North and at Appley Bridge railway station, about 200 m from the start. Morning refreshments and finish food and drinks are available for participants, with small donations requested for scout fundraising. Compulsory kit includes a waterproof jacket, spare base layer, charged mobile phone, food and water for the full route, and a means of navigation (roadbook or GPS).
