The Basilisk

The Basilisk is a mountain trail race presented by The Running Kind at Camelback Resort on October 4, 2026. The course uses a 2.5 mile loop that covers just under 900 ft of elevation gain and descent and runs on a double black diamond ski slope called The Basilisk.

Distances available include:

  • 2.5 Mile single loop
  • 5 Mile two laps
  • 10 Mile four laps
  • 10 Mile Relay team of two, four laps total

Relay teams must ensure only one runner is on the course at a time and each team member completes two laps. The timing chip must accompany the runner who is on course.

A ruck division is offered for any distance with added weight. Athletes must check in with weight at bib pickup. There are no official awards for the ruck division, but finishers receive a special Basilisk patch.

All distances are chip timed.

The event is organized as a zero carbon event. The Running Kind will subsidize offset costs and registration includes a fee to offset personal travel emissions. The event partners with Change Climate and will collect monetary donations for Runners For Public Lands.

Gently worn, used, or new shoes are accepted for Sneakers 4 Good; funds raised support Wildlands Conservancy. The Trail Mix Fund may cover registration fees for runners who cannot afford entry, with priority for underrepresented communities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
