Thanksgiving XC Classic 5K & 1.5 Mile Fun Run/Walk - Reid Park, Tucson
The Thanksgiving XC Classic features a European style cross-country course with hay bales on grass, dirt, and some asphalt. The event includes a 5K run laid out as two loops and a 1.5 mile fun run completed as one loop. The course starts near Ramada #10 at the southwest corner of Reid Park, at 22nd Street and Country Club Road. The 5K is part of The Running Shop SAR Grand Prix.
Strollers are welcome although the course is hilly and mostly on grass and dirt. Lanes are provided to bypass the hay bales. For safety reasons dogs are not permitted.
Packet pickup is available at The Running Shop and on race morning at Reid Park near Ramada #10. Packets include quality cotton shirts offered in women's, unisex, and youth sizes. Fun run participants receive a shirt and a finisher's ribbon. Shirts are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Awards for the 5K include Brooks running shoes from The Running Shop for overall and masters winners in the gender races. Age-group prizes are awarded across standard divisions from 10 and under up to 85 and over. Fun run finishers receive ribbons; age-group first place winners receive a Thanksgiving themed award, second place receive a pie, and third place receive a medal. The fun run is not officially timed.
The race benefits Team Hoyt Arizona and Toys for Tots, and donations of new, unwrapped toys are accepted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
