Tucson, United States • 26 Nov 2026
Event Overview
The Thanksgiving XC Classic 5K & 1.5 Mile Fun Run/Walk takes place at Reid Park in Tucson, Arizona. This event features a European-style cross-country course that incorporates varied terrain, including grass, dirt, and small sections of asphalt. A unique aspect of the route includes the placement of hay bales as obstacles, though designated lanes are available for those who prefer to bypass them.
The event offers two main distances:
- 5 km (two loops of the course)
- 1.5 miles (one loop of the course)
Course and Participation
The 5 km race is part of the local Grand Prix series. While the course includes hilly sections and natural surfaces, it is accessible to participants using strollers. For safety reasons, dogs are not permitted on the course. The 1.5 mile fun run is a non-timed event.
Registration and Logistics
Participants can register for the event in advance or on the morning of the race. Team registration is available for groups of up to seven members, but teams must be finalized before race day. Packet pickup is held at a local running shop in the days leading up to the event, with additional pickup available at the park on the morning of the run. All registrants receive a cotton shirt, and fun run participants receive a finisher's ribbon.
Awards and Recognition
Awards are presented to overall winners and masters winners in the 5 km race. Age group awards are provided for various categories ranging from under 10 to 85 and over. These awards include themed items, pies for second-place finishers, and medals for third-place finishers. Team awards are also granted based on the combined times of the top four members.
