The event is a multi-distance trail running festival held on the Nordic trail system in the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest near Whitewater, Wisconsin (N9084 Cty. Rd. H). It is named in honor of Tom Bunk. Proceeds support projects in the Kettle Moraine State Forest; the first funded project was a permanent year-round shelter at the Scuppernong trailhead.

Aid station support includes a fully staffed station at the start/finish area with food and fluids, and an unmanned station with fluids and snacks approximately halfway along the Blue loop; crews and spectators are not allowed at the unmanned station. The race is cupless and runners must carry their own container for refilling; cups are provided for hot liquids. Drop bags may be left at the start/finish area.
Pacing is allowed for the 200M, 150M, and 100M (one pacer at a time after the first five loops). Pacers are not allowed in the 50M and 50K. Awards include overall male and female champions for each event except the night 50K and the 15K Fun Run. Finishers in 200M, 150M, 100M, and 50M receive a buckle; 50K finishers receive a medallion. A 200M runner who drops but completes 150+ miles within 48 hours receives a 150 mile buckle.
Pre-registration is offered online from May 1 to Nov. 1. A Wisconsin State Park Sticker is required for all vehicles and is not included in the entry fee. There is no campground at the Nordic trailhead; limited overnight parking and tent or canopy setup on the grass north of the shelter are permitted for specific nights, and camper/RV parking is allowed without utility hook-ups.
