Event overview

The Trail Animals Running Club TARC To Hale and Back is a trail running event held at Hale Education in Westwood, Massachusetts on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Distances offered are:

The start/finish location is Powissett Lodge (80 Carby St, Westwood). The event is a cupless race; participants should bring their own bottle or cup.

Course and logistics

The course is an approximate 3.5 mile loop of mostly singletrack and some double-track fire roads. It is largely wooded and follows the shores of ponds for parts of the loop, with a few beaches, modest hills, roots and rocks, small stream crossings, boardwalks and wood bridges. The course will be marked with directional arrows, pink ribbons, flagging, and signs; participants who go off course must backtrack to the last marker. The layout may be adjusted for weather, flooding, snow, or trail changes.

There is a single aid station at the start/finish offering water, an electrolyte drink (Hyle Hydration), basic sandwiches (PB&J, quesadillas/grilled cheese), and communal food contributed by participants. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are listed but cross-contamination cannot be guaranteed.

Parking may require a walk up to about 0.75 miles from vehicle to start/finish; parking locations can change. Pacers are not allowed; crew access is limited to the start/finish aid station. No race-day registration is offered; a waitlist opens when the event is full and waitlist entries are automatically charged as spots become available.

Entry and policies

Published entry fees are $32 for the 6 Hour and $22 for the 3.5 mile. The event maintains a no-refund policy and restrictions on transfers as noted in the event materials.
