Sycamore 8
Sycamore 8 is a trail race held in Johnston, Iowa, at 4301 NW 66th Ave. The course follows the single track dirt Sycamore Trail along the Des Moines River and takes place on the first weekend in December.
The route features rolling single track, wide views of the Des Moines River, and regular sightings of wildlife. Winter weather in Iowa is variable; past editions have seen rain, snow, below freezing temperatures, and some days around 50 degrees. When dry, portions of the dirt trail have produced fast running surfaces.
The event welcomes both experienced and newer trail runners. Entries are capped at 300 participants. Registration opens May 18, 2026 and closes November 6, 2026; the registration fee is $40.00.
