Switchback Sorrows 50k Trail Race

Switchback Sorrows is a 50k event held in Riverside State Park near Spokane, WA. The course is a roughly 31-mile loop that covers varied trail types and about 3,100 feet of elevation gain.

The route passes along the Spokane River and crosses the CCC Suspension Bridge. Runners encounter singletrack through ponderosa pine forest, riverside trails, fast prairie sections, technical rocky stretches and multiple winding switchbacks. The course also passes notable volcanic "haystack" rock features.

The event is run with a 10-hour time limit for the full distance and includes a designated course close at the end of that limit. The park layout allows crew access at several designated points for gear changes and support.

Vehicles entering Riverside State Park must display a Discover Pass. A day pass is listed at $10 and an annual pass at $45; passes are available at automated pay stations within the park or online. Registration for the event opens June 6, 2026.

The Kan is a mountain trail race at Mt Spokane State Park with 50k, 25k and 10k routes across alpine meadows and ski trails. Entry includes food and beer and the event offers prize money and other awards.
