Switchback Sorrows 50k Trail Race

Switchback Sorrows is a 50k trail race held in Riverside State Park near Spokane, WA. The course distance is 50k (about 31 miles) with roughly 3,100 ft of elevation gain.

The route follows riverside trails and singletrack through prairies, ponderosa pine forest, and rocky sections. Notable features include views of the Spokane River, the CCC Suspension Bridge, and volcanic "haystack" rock formations. Runners will encounter winding switchbacks and technical rocky stretches as well as faster prairie sections.

The event uses a 10-hour time limit for the course. Crew support is allowed; the park layout provides multiple designated points where crews can meet runners for gear changes and assistance.

Riverside State Park requires a Discover Pass for all vehicles accessing the park. Day and annual pass options are available; passes can be purchased at automated pay stations within the park or via the state Discover Pass website.
