Swinner Swagger : Muker

Swinner Swagger is a looped trail race based at Usha Gap Campsite near Muker, covering roughly 15.5 km (9.6 miles). The course runs north from the meadows by Muker through the Hartlakes valley to Kisdon Force near Keld, crosses the river by footbridge, passes Crackpot Hall, then climbs Swinner Gill before descending via Gunnerside Gill to Ivelet and returning along the River Swale to finish near Rampsholme footbridge.

The route uses grassy paths, shooting tracks and a few short road sections; trail shoes are recommended though road shoes may be adequate in dry conditions. The course is waymarked with orange tape, pin flags and coloured arrow signs, and marshals man critical turns and road crossings. GPX and PDF route files are available.

Aid stations are fully stocked with water, sports drink and sweet and savoury food, and include vegan and gluten-free options; the event does not provide disposable cups so runners should carry a soft flask or collapsible cup. Post-race refreshments include a hot drink, vegetable soup and a roll. Portable toilets are provided at the car park; there are no toilet facilities at the start or finish areas.

The event enforces mandatory kit and may perform spot checks. Required items include taped-seam waterproofs, a hat or buff, gloves, an emergency blanket or bivvy, a cup or soft flask, a minimum of 500 ml water and a fully charged mobile phone. Suggested extra kit includes map, compass, whistle and emergency food. Entrants must be 16 or older; the event limit is 100 runners. Entry fees include a £1 donation to the National Park.
