Sussex Downs Trail Run - Plumpton Racecourse

The Sussex Downs Trail Run takes place in the South Downs National Park, with the event base at Plumpton Racecourse. The venue is noted as being within easy reach of Brighton, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Burgess Hill and the A27/A23.

There are three route options offered:

  • 21.3 km Half Marathon, 382 m ascent
  • 15.5 km Trail Run, 272 m ascent
  • 10.8 km Trail Run, 200 m ascent

Each course starts with a flattish, tree-lined section of about 3.5 km before a sustained climb up to the South Downs Way. From the ridge runners follow trails that include views over the Sussex countryside, Seven Sisters Country Park and distant sea views, then descend from the hilltop and return to a flat final 3 km to the finish.

Entries include chip timing, a finisher medal, a drink, finisher goodies and a personalised certificate. The event provides first aid cover, on-course refreshments and water stations, and marshals on the route. The race route is signed with pink arrows and pink tape; hazards and road junctions are marked with caution signs. The event operates a plastic-free policy and requests runners bring a reusable cup or bottle for water stations. Spectators are welcome.
