Sunapee Scramble : Mount Sunapee Resort, Newbury, NH

The Sunapee Scramble is a two-lap up/down mountain race held at Mount Sunapee Resort on June 7, 2026. The event will host the 2026 USATF Mountain Running Championships and the 2026 Collegiate Mountain Running National Championships, and it will serve as a selection race for the USATF Classic Mountain Running Team for the WMRA World Cup finale in Quebec.

The race distance is about 9.3 miles with approximately 3,300 feet of total elevation gain. The first lap begins with about 2.3 miles on a service road before joining trail that climbs roughly 1,500 feet to the summit, followed by a 1.75 mile descent. The second lap climbs about 3.5 miles with roughly 1,800 feet of gain, follows a service road until joining the Newbury Trail, and finishes with the same 1.75 mile descent back to the Base Lodge.

Logistics and amenities include prize purses for 2026 totaling $30,000 in cash prizes provided by Brooks, a separate $3,000 collegiate purse and JAMBAR awards for top college finishers, limited comp entries for elite athletes, race livestreams and race photography, and inclusion in the USATF-NE Mountain Circuit. Registration fees listed are $65 for early registration and $70 after December 31. To receive a technical tee entrants must register by April 30. The weekend schedule notes an early bib pick up and course preview on Saturday at The Shanty Pub and bib pick up on race day. Poles and headphones are not allowed during the race. A 5 km cross-country event at Canterbury Shaker Village on May 16, 2026 with in-person and virtual options. Online registration closes May 15 at 12:00 noon ET and the registration fee is $25.
