The Sunapee Scramble is a mountain running event held in Sunapee, New Hampshire, at 1398 New Hampshire Route 103. The race serves as the 2026 USATF National Classic Mountain Championship and as the sole selection race for the 2026 US Classic Up/Down Mountain Running Team. Categories include overall, collegiate, and high school championships.
The course is a two-lap up and down route that starts at the mountain base and returns to the Base Lodge after each lap. Runners follow a service road to the summit on the first ascent, then descend back to the Base Lodge. The second lap climbs the service road and then joins the Newbury Trail, described as a more technical route to the summit, before a final descent to the Base Lodge. The race distance is approximately 9.2 miles with about 3,250 feet of vertical gain.
Event logistics include early bib pick up at The Shanty Pub with a course preview available the day before, and bib pick up on race day. Awards and an after party take place at the Sunapee Base Lodge. There is no day of registration. A $30,000 prize purse is presented by Brooks Running. Registration closes Fri, Jun 5 at 11:59 PM ET.
