Sun Mountain 50M / 50K / 25K : Winthrop, WA, May 16–17, 2026
These trail races take place on the sunny east side of the North Cascades near the Chelan Sawtooth Wilderness above the Methow and Twisp River Valleys. Courses run through meadows of spring wildflowers, forests and ridgetops with views of snow capped peaks. Surfaces are mostly dirt trails, single track, wider former ranch or forest roads, and some low traffic rural roads. Each route begins and ends with about a mile of paved road; the 50M and 50K may include an additional 2.7 miles of paved road depending on final route choice.
Distances offered:
- 50 mile with roughly 8200 ft or 9500 ft elevation gain and six aid stations
- 50 kilometer with roughly 5000 ft or 6700 ft elevation gain and four or five aid stations
- 25 kilometer with roughly 2300 ft or 3700 ft elevation gain and two aid stations
Cutoff times are published per distance and enforced at aid stations; finish line cutoffs are used as a guideline. Courses will be well marked with ribbons and arrows, and aid stations typically provide water, electrolyte drink, soda, gels, fruit, sandwiches, snacks and basic first aid supplies. Races are held on the ancestral lands of the sp̓aƛ̓mul̓əxʷəxʷ, Syilx, Nłeʔkepmx Tmíxʷ, the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, and the Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla. Dogs are not allowed on the course; leashed dogs are allowed at the finish area at Big Twin Lake Resort Campground. Official race camping is available at Big Twin with site reservations for the race weekend. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
