Overview
The Cutthroat Classic is an 11-mile trail run in the North Cascades. The route follows a section of the Pacific Crest Trail, ascending to and descending from Cutthroat Pass.
The Course
The race starts at Rainy Pass on the North Cascades Scenic Highway at 4,870 feet. It follows the Pacific Crest Trail north for a five-mile climb to Cutthroat Pass at 6,835 feet. Runners then descend four miles to Cutthroat Lake before continuing for two more miles of gradual downhill to the Cutthroat Creek Trailhead at 4,480 feet. The total course length is 10.5 miles.
Event Details
Runners self-seed into one of six timed start waves. There is one aid station at mile seven, which provides energy chews, water, and sports drinks. The event is cupless, so participants are asked to carry their own bottle, collapsible cup, or hydration pack for refills. Bags with extra clothing can be left at the start line and will be transported to the finish. Transportation is provided from Mazama to the start line at Rainy Pass, and return shuttles run from the finish line to an after party in Mazama. A lunch is provided for participants, and all participants over 21 receive one free pint of beer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
