The Summer Solstice Challenge takes place on 21 June 2026 at Abberton Reservoir Visitors Centre, Layer-de-la-Haye, Colchester, Essex. The event is a timed challenge run on a loop around the reservoir. Each lap is just over 5 km on off-road paths that pass the Visitors Centre. The event format allows participants to complete as many laps as they wish within the challenge period; participants may aim for short outings or for extended distances such as marathon or ultra distances by repeating laps.

Trail runs nearby

A stage trail relay along the Roach Valley Way covering 23 miles in four legs for teams of four. Proceeds benefit Havens Hospices and each leg is timed and scored by marshal teams while runners navigate using maps and way markers.

A mainly off road 15k trail run at Trifarm, Boreham on 06 May 2026 featuring an anticlockwise route on public footpaths and bridleways, on-site parking, water points and manual timing.

A road marathon on scenic low traffic lanes around Halstead, marking its 30th running on 10 May 2026. The event is limited to 500 entries, is part of the Essex Road Running Championships and supports local charities.

Road marathon and half marathon from Suffolk Running Centre on measured Kirtling and Windmill routes. Aid stations every 10k, parking included and bespoke finisher medals; the event is cupless so bring your own bottle or cup.
