Trail Run Details
The Little River Trail Run is an annual event held in Little River, Kansas. Established in 1982, the course traverses a mix of roadways and rolling native grasslands west of town. Participants encounter natural features including two creek crossings and the elevation of Suicide Hill. The landscape includes sights of native hills, cowboys, and cattle, with all event registration and logistics centered on Main Street.
The event offers several participation formats:
- 10K Run: A loop course running west of town through native terrain and creek crossings.
- 5K Run: An out and back route that includes a crossing over Suicide Hill.
- 10K Ruck: A division requiring a backpack weighing at least 20 lbs, worn on the back.
- Pony Express Relay: A 10K team event for three people, where each member covers approximately one-third of the course using a provided baton.
- 10K Walk: A non-competitive option for recreational walkers.
Specific rules apply to the Ruck division. Participants must use a standard backpack; sling bags and duffel bags are not permitted. A mandatory weigh-in occurs at the finish line to confirm the minimum 20 lb requirement. Awards are presented for the top three finishers in various age categories, with a special award for the heaviest pack in the Ruck division. The top overall male and female 10K winners receive the Cow Chip award. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
