The Little River Trail Run is the 44th annual edition held Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Little River, Kansas. All event registration, information and starts take place on Main Street near 365 Main Street, Little River, KS 67457. Courses and formats

The event uses a loop and out-and-back trail course west of town that includes roadways, two creek crossings, rolling native grassland, cattle and the feature known as "Suicide Hill." Courses described in the program include:

  • 10K Pony Express 3-person relay

Individual event offerings include 10K run, 10K walk, 10K ruck, 5K run, Pony Express 3-person relay, youth versions of several events, and a "Lazy Run."

Ruck rules and awards

Ruck entries require a backpack with a mandatory minimum weight of 20 lbs carried on the back; slings and duffel bags are not allowed. A mandatory ruck weigh-in takes place at the finish line. Awards include medals for the top three in each age category, a "COW CHIP" award to the top 10K male and female, a $50 bonus for any new course record in the 5K, 10K or Pony Express races, and ruck awards for overall places and heaviest pack. Join the 5th Annual Shamwalk 5K Pubcrawl on March 14, 2026 in Hutchinson for a spirited 5K that raises funds for Wild Valor and veterans. Expect drink specials, door prizes, finish line food and a prize for best dressed.

Take on Carry Your Cross at Kanopolis Lake State Park, carrying a 50 plus pound cross over rugged 10 km trails. All ages can join the 5K and 10K trail races, then enjoy music, games and a BBQ with awards.
