Horsethief Canyon Trail Run
The Horsethief Canyon Trail Run is a 10K trail race held in Marquette, KS, in Kanopolis State Park. The course begins with about a half mile of road followed by roughly six miles of multi-use trail. Trail terrain includes hills, rocky sections, sand, and up to five shallow water crossings; the trail distance may be reduced if water levels are high.
The race starts at the Buffalo Tracks Trailhead. The Horsethief Trailhead is reached via Horsethief Drive from the Venango Park turn; it is about 3.6 miles from that turn and the road is paved. Park day use permits are required at the pay booth or park office for a fee of $5 per vehicle unless a Kansas Parks permit is already held.
Race day registration is available at the start/finish location. Regular entry fees are $25 without a shirt or $40 with a shirt. One self-serve water stop is provided on the trail; participants should dispose of cups in the trash box provided. Restroom facilities are available at the trailhead, and camping areas and showers are within one mile of the Horsethief Canyon day use area. Snacks and drinks are provided at the finish.
Finish line awards include overall men's and women's winners and the top three in each age group. Spectators are welcome to attend. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
