Sunflower Trail Run
The Sunflower Trail Run takes place in Buhler, Kansas, offering participants a unique route through more than 20 acres of sunflowers. This off-road event features dirt trails cut directly into an active sunflower field. Because it is a natural setting, the terrain includes uneven ground and the presence of pollinating bees.
The event offers several distances and categories to accommodate different styles of participation:
- 5K Competitive Division
- 5K Non-Competitive Division
- 1 Mile Run/Walk
- Virtual 5K option
The 5K Competitive Division is reserved for runners only; walking and strollers are not permitted due to limited space on the trails. In contrast, the 1 Mile and the 5K Non-Competitive Division allow for both running and walking, and strollers are permitted. All in-person events are officially timed.
Participants receive a finisher medal and a t-shirt. For the 5K Competitive Division, prizes are awarded to the top finishers in specific age categories ranging from 10 and under to 66 and over. Additionally, registration includes a one-day admission pass to the Kansas Maze sunflower festival for the participant and one guest.
Post-race amenities include a complimentary pancake breakfast for participants. While spectators are not allowed directly on the sunflower field trails, views of the course are available from a lookout bridge and various platforms. A water station is provided on-site.
