About the race
The Sunflower Trail Run is a trail race event held at the Kansas Maze sunflower fields in Buhler, Kansas on 08/28/2027. The course runs along dirt pathways cut through the sunflower field; participants must stay on the pathways or face disqualification. Uneven ground is possible and the course may be muddy after rain. Pollinating bees are present in the field.
Distances offered include:
- 5K (Competitive and Fun Run divisions)
- 1 Mile
- Virtual 5K completed remotely before race day
The 5K Competitive Division organizes age categories for both male and female runners with prizes awarded to the top finisher in each category. The Competitive Division does not allow walking or strollers. The 1 Mile and the 5K Fun Run allow run/walk participation and strollers. Morgan Sports provides official timing and results for all races. Virtual 5K participants complete their distance independently and will have medals and shirts mailed after the event.
All participants who register before the cut-off date are eligible to receive a Sunflower Trail Run finisher t-shirt and finisher medal, plus a one-day Kansas Maze sunflower festival admission pass for the participant and a guest. Pancakes are served after the races. Spectators are not allowed on the course or in the sunflower field but viewing is available from the lookout bridge or other platforms.
