Event overview

The Sunflower Trail Run is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 13209 East 82nd Avenue, Buhler, KS 67522. This is the event's eighth annual running and it offers on-site and virtual options. The virtual option allows participants to run a 5K on their own before race day; organizers will mail the finisher t-shirt and medal after the event.

Course, logistics and extras

The course runs on dirt trails cut through more than 20 acres of sunflower fields. Participants must stay on the pathways; violators may be disqualified. Uneven ground should be expected and the course may become muddy if there is rain. Pollinating bees will be present in the field. Spectators are not allowed on the course or in the sunflower field; viewing is available from a lookout bridge and other platforms. A water station will be provided.

All participants receive a finisher t-shirt, a finisher medal and a one-day admission pass to the Kansas Maze sunflower festival for the participant and a guest. Team entries are allowed with a minimum of four members per team. Prizes in the 5K Competitive Division are awarded to the top finisher in each age category: 10 & under, 11-17, 18-35, 36-50, 51-65, and 65+. Free pancakes will be served after the races.
