Sufferfest on Section 4

The Sufferfest on Section 4 is a running event taking place on a Saturday in August. The event has a 5-hour time limit for participants to complete as many out-and-back loops as they choose. The course follows the Pioneer Trail's Section 4, which is an approximately 2.5-mile one-way stretch.

The trail is described as technical, hilly, and featuring switchbacks and overlooks of Black Creek. It is mainly single track. Organizers note the event will feature the heat and humidity typical of a North Florida summer morning.

The event is free to enter but is limited to approximately 40-45 participants due to limited parking at the Phillips Branch parking area. Carpooling is encouraged. Organizers will accept optional donations on the day of the event to support the Friends of Florida State Forests for trail maintenance.

It is a cupless event, requiring participants to bring their own hydration vessel and all fueling needs. Organizers will provide an igloo of water and Skratch electrolytes at the halfway point (2.5 miles), which may not be staffed.

While not officially timed, organizers plan to track the number of loops completed. The participant completing the most out-and-back loops will receive a complimentary entry to one of the organizer's future trail races. A random entry will also be given away to another participant.
