The Stone Cross to Lug event takes place in County Wicklow on Saturday 26 September 2026. The route covers a total of 54.00 km with 2170 m of ascent. The course is unmarked and GPS use is not allowed. The event is graded as Extreme (more than 1,000 m ascent or over 30 km). Mandatory kit is Level C and includes a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, foil blanket or bivvy, waterproof full leg cover, means to carry at least 500 mL water, emergency food, plus map and compass. Random kit checks may be carried out; absence of required items can lead to denial of entry or disqualification.

Course, legs and checkpoints

The route is divided into three legs:

  • 13.18 km Start near Stone Cross to Sally Gap crossroads
  • 15.99 km Sally Gap crossroads to Turlough Hill carpark
  • 20.15 km Turlough Hill carpark to Fenton's Bar finish

Leg 1 starts about 2 km south of Stone Cross at a forest entrance (Grid Ref O-075-205) and passes Seahan (648 m), Corrig (618 m), Seefingan (724 m) and Kippure (757 m). Leg 2 passes Carrigvore (682 m), Gravale (718 m), Duff Hill (720 m), Mullaghcleevaun East Top (795 m), Mullaghcleevaun (849 m) and Tonelagee (817 m). Leg 3 includes Conavalla (734 m), Camenabologue (758 m) and Lugnaquilla (925 m) before finishing at Fenton's Bar. Changeover locations include Sally Gap and Turlough Hill carpark. There are checkpoint cutoffs at Sally Gap and Wicklow Gap / Turlough Hill carpark. Recommended additional kit includes rainproof pants, a long sleeve base layer and extra gloves.
