Course, conditions, and on-site facilities

The course uses a mix of groomed and single-track snowshoe trails that highlight features of the park, which has more than 14 miles of snowshoe routes. The trail offers views of Trout Brook, dark hemlock forest groves, mountain views from Catamount, and nearby attractions such as frozen waterfalls and the park’s large cave entrance located next to the start and finish. The route starts at about 990 feet elevation, climbs to about 1,445 feet before the halfway point, and includes an overall elevation gain of 771 feet.

Facilities on site are rustic in winter and include a pavilion with a propane heater, picnic tables, a port-o-pot, a bon-fire with iron grill baskets, bottled water, hot chocolate and coffee provided at no charge, and a small gift shop. Snowshoe loaners are available from DION Snowshoes for a limited number; a $5 rental fee is payable on race day. If there is no snow, the event may be run as a trail race and refunds are not offered.
