Stewart Mountain Challenge

Event
The Stewart Mountain Challenge is an annual cross-country trail race held at Thetis Lake Park in Victoria / View Royal, BC. The 2025 edition is the 22nd running and the event is sanctioned by BC Athletics. Proceeds support the Harriers Foundation and its programs, including student scholarships, bursaries, athlete travel, and youth development initiatives.
Course and race details
The races start and finish near the main beach at Thetis Lake Park. Courses use main and secondary trails and include technical single-track sections, rolling terrain, mud, rocks and water crossings. The long course includes a significant climb to the summit of Stewart Mountain with summit views; the short course follows similar trails and then returns toward the beach at the aid station. Courses are well-marked and marshaled, though participants are responsible for watching for directional indicators.

- Approximately 10 miles (16 km) - long course
- Approximately 5–5.5 miles (8–8.8 km) - short course
Additional details: parking is available in the main lot at the end of Six Mile Road or by cycling the Galloping Goose trail to the beach. The wash/change building is closed and portable toilets and a dry bag drop area are provided. Volunteers provide warming food and hot drinks, and a nearby pub offers a food discount.
