Olympic Adventure Trail Run
The OAT Run is a trail running event held in Port Angeles, Washington, featuring courses that primary navigate the Olympic Adventure Trail. The routes traverse Kelly Ridge, situated between the Olympic National Park and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Participants run through a landscape characterized by evergreen forests, moss, ferns, and views of the Elwha River Valley.
The event offers three distinct distances, all primarily on single-track trails:
- 12K: A point-to-point course of approximately 7 miles with 600 feet of elevation gain.
- Half Marathon: A point-to-point course of nearly 13 miles with 1,300 feet of elevation gain.
- 50K: An out-and-back course with approximately 4,500 feet of cumulative elevation gain and an 8-hour time limit.
As a cupless event, participants must carry their own hydration vessels or use reusable cups provided at packet pickup. To access the starting lines, runners are required to use the provided shuttle service from Extreme Sports Park. The trail remains open to the public during the race, and runners may encounter hikers, mountain bikers, or horses.
Following the competition, an after-party is held at Extreme Sports Park. This gathering includes a hot meal, a campfire, and a beer garden. The event is chip-timed, and registration includes professional photography and custom race swag. A portion of the proceeds supports local organizations responsible for trail maintenance on the North Olympic Peninsula. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
