Steve's Run

Steve's Run takes place in Downtown Dowagiac on July 17, 2026. The 52nd running starts and ends in Downtown Dowagiac and routes pass along paved roads, a golf course, a cemetery, and the wooded trails of Southwestern Michigan College.

Available distances include:

• 5K Run and Walk
• 10K Run
• 1 mile Family Fun Run

The event has a history dating to 1972 and was renamed in 1992 to honor people affected by cancer. In the last 16 years the event has raised over $180,000, with proceeds split evenly between cancer research and a student scholarship.

Registration phases and fees: Early registration (March 27–May 24): 5K $25, 10K $30, Family Fun Run $1. Regular registration (May 25–July 15): 5K $30, 10K $35, Family Fun Run $1. Late registration (July 16 and race day): 5K $40, 10K $40, Family Fun Run $1.

Packet pickup will be available July 16 at the Charles O. Zollar Building at Southwestern Michigan College and July 17 at the Dowagiac Train Depot. T-shirts are available through registration while supplies last. Custom "Fire Up" course signs can be purchased for placement along the 5K course and proceeds from the signs support cancer research.

Awards include medals for overall men and women in the 5K and 10K and top three men and women in these age groups: 14 and under, 15 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, 70 and older. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
