Spring Backyard Burn Trail Run - Pohick Bay

Event Overview

The Spring Backyard Burn at Pohick Bay is a trail running event located within Pohick Bay Regional Park in Lorton, Virginia. The course is situated on Gunston Cove, adjacent to the Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge. Participants run on a terrain that includes tight single-track, wide double-track, climbs, and descents. • 5.9 miles: This distance consists of one lap with approximately 500 feet of elevation gain.

Course Information and Rules

The trails are moderately technical. Aid stations are located along the route, and medical support is provided. Participants must wear their race numbers on the front and stay on designated trails. In-ear headphones, pets, pacers, and baby strollers are not permitted on the course. While there are no cut-off times, outside assistance is only allowed within 50 meters of an aid station.

Amenities and Logistics

Facilities including bathrooms and portajons are available at the start and finish area, though none are located on the course itself. Registration includes a race t-shirt or running socks for this specific event, post-race food such as breakfast burritos, and digital timing. Finisher medals are available as an optional add-on.
