South Shields 10 Mile - 10th Anniversary
The South Shields 10 Mile is a ten mile road and mixed surface race along the South Shields coastline, staged on 2 August 2026 to mark its 10th anniversary. The event is established in the North East running calendar and is used by many as a fitness benchmark before the Great North Run in September.
The course is an out-and-back route that runs north along the coastline and The Leas, with views that include Marsden Rock, Frenchman's Bay and Sandhaven Beach. The route is fully marked and marshalled and runs on National Trust land that remains open to the public. Light trail or road shoes are suitable; light trail shoes are recommended in wet conditions.
Facilities include on-course water stations and a finish water point, toilet locations at Souter Lighthouse and near Marsden Grotto, and parking on the field north of Souter Lighthouse (there is a £3 parking charge; free for National Trust members with card displayed). All finishers receive a special 10th anniversary medal; entries made by 22 July are guaranteed a medal on race day. Awards are given to the first three male and first three female finishers. The event has an age limit of 17 or older, allows headphones only if marshals can be clearly heard, and is UKA licensed via the Trail Running Association. Number collection is also available the day before at The New Crown following South Shields parkrun. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
