Soup-In-The-Snow

Irwin, United States • 7 Feb 2026

Event overview

Soup-In-The-Snow is an annual winter trail event held in early February 2026 near Irwin, Idaho at the Palisades Creek Trailhead. The event has taken place since 2016, typically on the first Saturday of February, and is organized by the Idaho Falls Trail Runners. Registration is free but required online, with registration opening on December 1, 2025. The organizing group is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Course and logistics

The course is an out-and-back to Lower Palisades Lake: approximately 4.3 miles each way, for a total of about 8.6 miles, with roughly 1,000 feet of snowy elevation gain. Trails are snowy and include mountain- and lake-side terrain; wildlife such as moose has been reported in the area. There are no guaranteed aid stations, no prizes, and no event shirts. Organizers describe the gathering as more of a group run than a competitive race.

A post-run potluck is part of the event; participants are asked to bring a soup, bread, dessert, or side to share, plus their own utensils and camp chairs. Trailhead parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged. An outhouse may be available at the trailhead but not near the parking area, and participants are advised to bring toilet paper.
