Soup-In-The-Snow : Irwin, Idaho

Soup-In-The-Snow is an annual group run held on the first Saturday in February since 2016. The event is organized by the Idaho Falls Trail Runners and takes place at the Palisades Creek Trailhead, past Swan Valley near Irwin, Idaho. The setting includes snowy trails and a mountain lake, and moose are mentioned in the event notes.

The out-and-back course runs from a stamped line in the parking lot to Lower Palisades Lake and back, a total of 8.6 miles (approximately 4.3 miles each way) with roughly 1,000 feet of snowy elevation gain. There are no guaranteed aid stations on course and no competition prizes or event tee-shirts. Entry to the event is free, but participants must register on UltraSignup.

After the run there is a potluck lunch. Participants are asked to bring a food item to share, such as soup, bread, dessert, or a side dish. Generators may be available to warm crock pots. The organizers also coordinate other needs like folding tables and similar supplies.

Trailhead parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged. Participants must bring their own utensils and are advised to bring a camp chair. An outhouse exists at the trailhead if it is open, and participants are advised to bring toilet paper when needed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
