Cirque Series - Grand Targhee
The Cirque Series at Grand Targhee, Wyoming, is a mountain running event limited to 500 participants. The course covers a distance of 7.1 miles with a total vertical gain of 2,212 feet.
The race begins at the base of Grand Targhee Resort at an elevation of 7,860 feet. The initial ascent follows a service road through aspen and spruce groves via the Teton Vista Traverse. Runners continue toward the mid-mountain area, passing the Mary's and Peaked peak amphitheater. The route utilizes the Teton Traverse Trail and the Many Saddle Hiking trail, reaching the Caribou Targhee National Forest.
The course features a steep climb up Mary's Ridge, involving singletrack paths and large boulders where some scrambling may be necessary. Runners reach the summit of Mary's Nipple at 9,920 feet before traversing a high alpine ridge toward Peaked Mountain. This section includes a technical ascent to the Peaked Mountain summit at 9,830 feet, which may contain patches of snow.
The descent follows a mix of rocky ridges, service roads, and singletrack trails including Ain’t Life Grand, Peaked Trail, and Yada Yada. The race concludes back at the vendor village in the Trap Bar plaza. There are two aid stations located at approximately mile 2.2 and mile 3.8. A strict cutoff time of 50 minutes is enforced at the first aid station, located approximately 1.9 miles into the race.
