Soapstone Mountain Trail Races, Stafford Springs, CT

The Soapstone Mountain Trail Races include a new half marathon course debuted in 2026 and a shorter 6K called the Jerry Stage Sampler. Both races take place on trails in Shenipsit Forest State Park around Soapstone Mountain and start and finish at Reddington Rock Riding Club.

Distances

  • Half Marathon (new trail course)
  • 6K Jerry Stage Sampler (walkers and hikers welcome)

The half marathon route leaves Reddington Rock Riding Club and follows dirt roads and single track to join the blue-blazed Shenipsit Trail. Runners cross Gulf Road for an out-and-back to Hopkins Road, travel up and over Soapstone Mountain past the fire tower twice, and pass aid stations at the Parker Road crossing and Hopkins Road. The course includes three aid stations in total; aid stations will be reachable by spectators.

The Jerry Stage 6K follows a short single track before Sodom Road, winds through forest along the White Blaze, returns to Sodom Road, and follows the Shenipsit blue-blazed trail for part of the course. No aid is provided on the 6K.

The event is organized by the Shenipsit Striders, a nonprofit club founded in 1975. Proceeds benefit Connecticut trail stewardship organizations, including the Connecticut Forest and Park Association, Joshua’s Trust, and Northern Connecticut Land Trust.
