Soapstone Mountain Trail Races

The Soapstone Mountain Trail Races take place in Stafford Springs, CT, centered at Reddington Rock Riding Club (93 Handel Road). The event features trail running through Shenipsit Forest State Park and around Soapstone Mountain, including passage by the fire tower.

Distances include:

  • Half Marathon
  • 6K Sampler

The new 2026 Soapstone Half Marathon follows dirt roads, single track, and the blue-blazed Shenipsit Trail. The route crosses Gulf Road for an out-and-back to Hopkins Road, climbs over Soapstone Mountain past the fire tower twice, and returns to the Reddington Rock Riding Club. The half marathon has three aid stations that will be stocked with trail-running snacks and placed at accessible road crossings. The race is cupless, so runners must carry their own water. Aid station volunteers will record bib numbers to track participants.

The 6K Sampler begins at the same venue and combines single track, dirt road segments, White Blaze sections, and a short return through the woods to the finish. Walkers and hikers are welcome in the 6K. No aid is provided on the 6K course.

The event is part of the 2026 Blue Blazed Trail Running Series in Connecticut. Post-race food and drinks are provided for participants and spectators. Proceeds support Connecticut trail stewardship organizations, including the Connecticut Forest and Park Association, Joshua’s Trust, and Northern Connecticut Land Trust.
