The CUT112 is a 112 mile run following the Blue Blazes of the New England Trail (NET) from the Massachusetts-Connecticut border to the Long Island Sound in Guilford, Connecticut. The CUT50M is a 50 mile run following the Blue Blazes of the NET from the Berlin Turnpike to the Long Island Sound in Guilford, following the Mattabesset and Menucatuck trails.
The Course
The route uses trails including Suffield Mountain, Peak Mountain, Hatchet Hill, Penwood State Park, Heublein Tower, Rattlesnake Mountain, Pinnacle Rock, Ragged Mountain, Castle Craig, Lamentation Mountain, Chauncey Peak, Mount Higby, Bluff Head, and Cockaponset State Forest, finishing at the Guilford Point waterfront. The course is not marked except by the existing blue blazes. Runners must navigate themselves. Roads are open to traffic. The route has significant vertical gain.
Registration and Donation
To finalize entry, runners for CUT112 must send a $112 donation and runners for CUT50M must send a $100 donation to the Connecticut Forest and Parks Association (CFPA). Proof of donation must be sent to a specified email address. Donations are not refundable. The event is described as a way to raise funds to support the trails.
Support and Caution
Runners are expected to provide or arrange for their own safety and support, including a dedicated crew to act as a rolling aid station. The event states it is not a traditional race and does not have permits. Runners must be experienced in trail running, night travel, and navigating the blue-blazed trail. Finishing times are typically between 30 and 45 hours. The intent is to complete the CUT112 in one continuous effort without stopping to sleep.
