Smith's Knob Scramble : Montoursville, PA

Smith's Knob Scramble is part of the Rocksylvania series in the Slate Division and takes place near 3026 Sand Spring Rd, Montoursville, PA. The main course is an eight mile trail race that follows the Loyalsock Trail and climbs the steep Smith's Knob vista.

The event offers two course options:

  • 8 mile trail race following the Loyalsock Trail over Smith's Knob
  • 4.5 mile Half Scramble loop that does not reach the Smith's Knob vista

Awards are given to overall male and female winners, first place male and female for ages 14 and under, for ages 15 to 19, and then in ten year age groups up to 60 and over. Due to limited parking, the field is capped at 200 participants and carpooling is encouraged. Registration closes on Sat, May 30 at 11:59PM ET.

Proceeds are split between the Hughesville Cross Country program and the Think Big pediatric cancer fund. A $500 Cross Country Award is designated as a scholarship for graduating seniors, with $250 allocated for a senior male and $250 for a senior female. Remaining proceeds support the Think Big fund.

The Half Scramble, added in 2024, follows a mix of single track and logging roads and covers roughly the opening and closing portions of the full Scramble. It is offered as an alternative to the full eight mile course and is not part of the Rocksylvania series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
