Slioch Horseshoe Hill Race

The Slioch Horseshoe Hill Race is a category AL hill race based in Kinlochewe. The event covers a distance of 20 km with total elevation gain of 1000 m. The route traverses rough, pathless mountain terrain and is not marked. Participants must visit seven specific checkpoints in order, using their own navigation skills.

The course begins at Incheril, located approximately one mile from the registration point at Kinlochewe Village Hall. Competitors must reach the first checkpoint at Sgurr Dubh by 13:45 to continue the race. A mandatory kit list is required for all participants, including full body waterproof cover, hat or buff, gloves, a map of the course, a compass, and a whistle. Depending on weather conditions, organizers may also require a survival bag and a long-sleeve base layer.

Due to the technical nature of the terrain, there are specific entry requirements:

  • Participants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Runners must have completed at least two category AM hill races within the last two years.
  • Waymarked trail races and skyraces are not accepted as qualifying experience.
  • GPS devices are prohibited for navigation during the event.

Registration takes place at the Kinlochewe Village Hall. Parking in the village is restricted, and participants are encouraged to carpool or use parking areas at the Beinn Eighe Visitor Centre or along the loch-side. Post-race refreshments and the prize giving are held at the village hall following the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
