Skunk Ape 100 Mile Endurance Run
The Skunk Ape 100 Mile Endurance Run takes place in the heart of Florida within the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway. Runners traverse a variety of ecosystems, including sand pine scrubs, pine flatwoods, longleaf pines, and riverine hardwoods. The course also passes through the Ross Prairie Wildlife Management Area, which features the highest most southern switchback in the United States.
Participants can choose between two main distances:
- 100 Miles
- 50 Miles
The course is a 50-mile out-and-back route utilizing the Florida National Scenic Trail and paved paths. The outbound leg follows the Florida Trail and Ross Prairie, while the inbound leg uses the Florida Trail and a paved path. Runners completing the 100 Mile distance perform this circuit twice. The trail surface consists of single-track trail, sand, roots, short climbs, and paved sections. The total elevation gain for the 100 Mile event is approximately 3,124 feet.
The event has a 36-hour cut-off time. Aid stations are located at intervals ranging from 3.8 to 7.14 miles, offering water, electrolytes, and various snacks. Specific stations at the Start/Finish and Pruitt Trailhead provide hot food. Drop bag services are available at designated stations. Pacers are permitted for the 100 Mile participants after the first 50 miles, while the 50 Mile distance does not allow pacers. All participants receive a shirt, hat, and other commemorative items, with belt buckles awarded to 100 Mile finishers and plaques to 50 Mile finishers.
