Caveman Challenge
Inverness, United States • 16 May 2026
Event Overview
The Caveman Challenge is an annual multisport event held at Whispering Pines Park in Inverness, Florida. Now in its eighth year, the event honors the memory of William Mintner by supporting the Wil-Power Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational and wellness opportunities for local communities. The competition incorporates elements reflecting the interests of its namesake, including running, swimming, and strength activities.
Participants can choose from three distinct divisions, all of which feature a 5K distance as a core component. The event utilizes various facilities within the park, including a short course swimming pool and designated areas for weighted movements.
Course and Divisions
The event is organized into the following categories:
- Competitive Caveman Challenge: A 5K run followed by a 400-yard swim in a short course pool. Between swimming laps, participants perform strength and plyometric movements. The event concludes with a 25-meter Jeep push.
- Team Caveman Challenge: A relay style event for teams. One member completes the 5K run, while a second member performs the swimming and pool deck strength challenges. Both teammates collaborate to finish with the 25-meter Jeep push.
- Mini Caveman: This division consists of a 5K run or walk followed by the 25-meter Jeep push.
Awards and Recognition
Awards are presented to top finishers in several categories. Gold, silver, and bronze awards are available for the male and female divisions of the individual challenge. A specialized award is also given for the best recorded times in the Jeep push segment for both men and women. In the team division, an award is presented to the first-place group.
