8-Hours of Berm

The 8 Hours of Berm is an 8 hour timed event held at Ross Prairie Trailhead in Dunnellon, Florida. The format uses a 6.5 mile loop with about +135 feet of elevation gain per loop. The event includes an 8 hour ruck category and a standard 8 hour timed category. Registration closes on August 8. Bib pick-up on race day opens at 6am.

The course runs along berms and fire lines through longleaf pine forests, oak hammocks and dry prairies. Surfaces range from deep sand to firmer sandy roads, overgrown forest roads, exposed stretches and singletrack. The berms are mostly cleared for visibility and offer sections with little canopy cover.

The event is operated by Combat Racing, which is described as a veteran owned and operated small business. The organizer states there are no DNFs and no cutoffs. Crew or pacer support is not required. Self-crew is permitted on site with space for 10x10 tents and self-aid; participants receive maps showing crew locations by race email. The trailhead has a bathhouse.

Ross Prairie Campground is adjacent and offers 14 sites with 30 and 50 amp electrical pedestals, potable water hookups, picnic pavilions, a dump station and a bathhouse for those who plan to stay overnight. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
