SISU 24 Ultra PNW : Camp Sheppard, Enumclaw, WA
SISU 24 Ultra PNW is a self-supported trail event held at Camp Sheppard in the Cascade Mountains near Mount Rainier National Park and Crystal Mountain ski area. The event offers multiple race formats and weekend camping at the Boy Scout camp, with registration including three days of camping, centrally located restrooms and showers, BBQ stands, and sinks.
Participants choose among these event options:
- 100 Mile
- 24 hour solo
- 24 hour team
The course uses six marked out-and-back trails ranging from about 3 miles to 18.9 miles. Each trail has a rubber stamp at its far point; runners stamp a quest log and must check in and out at HQ for safety and tracking. Trails may take runners far from camp and must be finished once started. Cheating results in a DNF.
A points system assigns values to the six main quests; earlier completions can earn more points. Optional side quests on each trail and separate activities such as midnight yoga or a service project offer extra points. Examples of past side quests include connect-the-dots, carrying an egg intact, sudoku, trivia, and knot tying.
Water sources exist on the trails; participants must bring a water filtration device. Required gear includes a headlamp, hydration pack or bottles, water filtration device, food for 24 hours, and an ink pad. Awards include a custom wood round medal for all participants, top placings, a buckle for the 100 Mile, and other special recognitions. Event rules and full racer information are provided by the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
