The Shawangunk Ridge Trail Run is held in Rosendale, New York, on the Shawangunk Ridge Trail. The event offers three separate divisions with the following distances:
- 70 mile
- 30 mile
- Half marathon
The Shawangunk Ridge Trail itself is a 70 mile route that runs from High Point State Park in New Jersey to the town of Rosendale, New York, ending just beyond a restored railroad trestle 140 feet above the Rondout Creek. The trail passes through rolling hills, wetlands, dwarf pine barrens, sky lakes, waterfalls, and white conglomerate cliffs formed about three hundred million years ago. Vantage points reach roughly 2,000 feet above the Hudson Valley and can offer views across five states.
The event is minimally supported. Participants must carry their own food and water purification method. The trail is well blazed but receives no supplemental markings, and some sections are rocky or require scrambles. No pacers, support crews, drop bags, or resupply caches are allowed; participants are expected to carry out what they carry in. Multiple checkpoints and time cutoffs are used for safety. Event parking is available only in Rosendale, and parking at Sam’s Point or Minnewaska State Park Preserve is not permitted.
Registered participants receive event tech t shirts and finishers medals; other recognitions and awards are provided. The event is managed by Run Wild, Inc., a not for profit supporting land conservation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
