Shawangunk Ridge Trail Run (SRT)

Kingston, United States • 12 Sep 2026

Event Overview

The Shawangunk Ridge Trail Run (SRT) is a trail running event on the Shawangunk Ridge Trail. The trail is 70 miles long and traverses the Shawangunk Mountains from High Point State Park in New Jersey to Rosendale, New York. The event offers three separate race distances: a 70 Miler, a 30 Miler, and a 1/2 Marathon.

The Course

The trail passes through varied terrain including rolling hills, wetlands, rare dwarf pine barrens, sky lakes, waterfalls, and distinctive white conglomerate cliffs. There are views from vantage points approximately 2,000 feet above the Hudson Valley. The Nature Conservancy has identified the ridgeline as "one of Earth's last great places." The course is a rugged hiking trail with rocky sections, difficult footing, squeezes, and scrambles.

Race Format & Rules

The event is designed with multiple checkpoints for safety but is unsupported; participants must bring their own food and water purification. The trail is well-blazed but has no supplemental markings. The use of a map app is strongly recommended. The rules state no pacers, support crews, drop bags, or resupply caches are allowed.

Participant Items

Registered participants receive a distinctive SRT tech t-shirt. Finishers receive unique medals. There is a special "barefoot" badge for runners wearing sandals, Vibram Five Fingers, or running barefoot. 70-mile finishers get a completion certificate. Ceremonial tomahawks are awarded to the first-place male, female, and non-binary participant in each division.

Logistics & Transportation

All event parking is in Rosendale, New York. Shuttle buses are required for participants not being dropped off at their respective start lines. Runners may not park at the Sam's Point or Minnewaska State Park Preserve start locations.

Organizer

The event is managed by Run Wild, Inc., a 501(c)3 not-for-profit supporting land conservation and stewardship in the Hudson Valley. Optional donations can be made during registration to supporting organizations, including the NY-NJ Trail Conference and local volunteer Search and Rescue teams.
