Course, logistics and rules
The course follows the Shawangunk Ridge Trail, a 70-mile trail that crosses the Shawangunk Mountains and ends near a restored railroad trestle above the Rondout Creek. The route passes rolling hills, wetlands, dwarf pine barrens, sky lakes, waterfalls, and white conglomerate cliffs. Some ridge vantage points reach about 2,000 feet above the Hudson Valley and offer wide views.
The event is minimally supported. Participants must carry their own food and water purification and may not use pacers, support crews, drop bags, or resupply caches. The trail is well blazed but has no supplemental markings and includes rocky sections, squeezes, and scrambles. Event parking is provided in Rosendale only and shuttle transport is used to reach start locations; parking at Sam's Point or Minnewaska is not allowed. There are checkpoint cutoffs and no refunds, deferrals, or transfers. Registered participants receive event tech shirts and finishers medals; t-shirt availability is not guaranteed for registrations after 8/1/2026.
