The Serengeti Trail Races take place in Erda, Utah. The start and finish location is the Bates Canyon Trail Head at the base of the Oquirrh Mountains. The event offers four distances on the Serengeti/Oquirrh Wave trail system. The terrain includes dirt roads, ATV trails, single-track, double-track, and primitive trails. Available Distances
- 50 Mile: 51 miles with 7,500 ft of elevation gain. The course is 73% dirt road/ATV trail, 9% single-track, 6% double-track, and 12% primitive trail. There are seven aid stations. A hard cutoff exists at mile 25.5 (7.5 hours) and at the finish (15 hours).
- 50K: 31.1 miles with 4,500 ft of elevation gain. The course consists of two 25k loops run in opposite directions. It is 69% dirt road/ATV trail, 25% single-track, and 6% double-track. There are three aid stations. Cutoffs are at mile 15.55 (4.5 hours) and at the finish (9 hours).
- 25K: 15.55 miles with 2,250 ft of elevation gain. Runners complete one counterclockwise loop. The terrain breakdown matches the 50K course. There is one aid station. The cutoff at the finish is 4.5 hours.
- 10K: 6.45 miles with 1,250 ft of elevation gain. The route includes trails named "Puke Ravine," Pole Canyon, and BBC. The course is 45% dirt road/ATV trail, 38% single-track, and 17% double-track. The finish line cutoff is 2 hours.
Race Philosophy
The event emphasizes the course experience over additional amenities. The organization states it does not provide elaborate finish line arches, finisher awards, or entry bags.
