Sea to Summit: Ben Nevis Ultramarathon

The Ben Nevis event is a sea to summit ultramarathon in Scotland that starts on the Atlantic coast at Loch Linnhe and finishes at the Nevis Range Mountain Experience Resort. The route covers 28 miles with about +6000 ft of elevation and is predominantly trail running, with approximately 95% trail and 5% road.

Runners follow a fully waymarked route that passes through ancient woodland, thundering waterfalls, gorges, hidden lochans and remote moorland, with coastal and Highland views along the way. The course is supported with pit stops that provide basics such as water, hot drinks, salty snacks, sweets and fruit; participants are advised not to rely solely on these and to carry their own nutrition. Cut offs are enforced based on an expected completion pace of 3 mph.

Event logistics include a mandatory coach transfer to the coastal startline and public parking at the finish location; supporters cannot access the private start area. Safety provision includes professional 4x4 support vehicles, paramedics and a mountain safety team, and the event is audited to the BS8848 expedition safety standard. Mandatory kit is enforced and headtorches are required because a finish after dark is possible. Finishers receive a Rat Rag and a metal finisher medal.
