About the race

Sawmill Ultra is a trail running event in Lee Canyon, Mt. Charleston, inside the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The course is arranged as three loops that are run counterclockwise in the order 5, 8, then 4 miles. The event offers both solo and team relay formats. In the relay each team completes all three loops; each runner completes one loop before tagging the next teammate. One lap totals 19.22 miles; completing the course twice totals 38.45 miles.

Aid stations are cup less; runners should use hydration packs to refill. Marathon and ultra participants receive gel electrolytes and Gatorade at aid stations. Packet pickup occurs at the staging area about 45 to 60 minutes before the race, and a bag drop area is available at staging. Food items such as grilled burgers, chicken, and hot dogs plus hot coffee and snacks are provided on site.

The Sawmill area sits around 7,600 feet elevation with early June temperatures near 69°F high and 38°F low. The forest contains a variety of trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and wildlife. Awards are given for male and female places one through three for all distances. The race course may change for safety or weather, and awards are not mailed.
