The Remembrance Run is a time challenge event held in Durham along the River Wear. The course is a trail run that offers views of the Cathedral. The route is fully signed and takes place on public footpaths. This event is open to runners of all abilities, including walkers.

Participants have 6 hours and 32 minutes to complete their chosen distance. The event uses a lap system, with a full lap measuring 7 km (4.37 miles). The distance may be adjusted to a 3.28-mile loop depending on ground conditions. Specific turn points are also provided at 3 km and 5 km to accommodate younger runners and different distance goals.

The following distance options are available based on the number of laps completed:

  • 3 km
  • 5 km
  • 10 km
  • Half Marathon (3 laps)
  • Marathon (6 laps)
  • 50 km
  • Ultra Marathon (7 or more laps)

At 11 am, all participants observe a two-minute silence. This time is deducted from the final recorded running times. Facilities at the Durham Amateur Rowing Club include toilets, showers, and a bar. An aid station at the start and finish of each lap provides a variety of sweet, savoury, and vegan food items. Finishers receive a themed medal and a goody bag, with distance pins awarded for completing a half marathon or further. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
