The Scare Bear Run 2026 takes place on Sunday 11 October 2026 at Durham Amateur Rowing Club, Green Lane, Old Elvet, Durham DH1 3JU. The event is a 7-hour Time Challenge on a signed trail course along the River Wear with views of the Cathedral. Participants may run or walk and a minimum completed distance of 3 km is required to be an official finisher and receive a Scare Bear themed medal.

The lap length is 4.37 miles (about 7 km) but may be changed to a 3.28 mile loop depending on course conditions. There are 3 km and 5 km turn points on the lap to allow younger runners to meet UK Athletics distance rules. Laps required: three laps for a half-marathon, six laps for a marathon, seven or more laps for an ultra. A 50 km distance is also available.

Practical information

Entry at the £17.00 price is available only to members; membership is purchased through the participant profile. Distance pins are awarded for half-marathon, mega-half, marathon, 50 km and ultra distances and are attached to the medal ribbon. Finishers receive a goody bag; a vegan goody bag can be requested at entry.

Facilities include toilets, changing space and an unattended bag drop near the start/finish. An aid table and drinks table are provided at the start/finish of each lap with drinks and snack options including vegan choices. Headphones are allowed. Final race instructions and number pick up details are sent by email before the event. Car parking is available nearby on-street for free or via pay and display in the city centre.
