St David's Day Dragon Run 2027
The St David's Day Dragon Run takes place in Dare Valley Country Park, Wales. This event is a 7-hour time challenge, providing participants with the flexibility to determine their own running distance within the allocated time frame. The course consists of a loop on well-maintained footpaths, making it suitable for standard road running shoes.
A full lap is approximately 7 km (4.37 miles), though this may be adjusted to a 5.28 km (3.28 mile) loop depending on the conditions of the course. Specific turn points at 3 km and 5 km are available for younger runners to ensure compliance with age-restricted distance regulations. Participants can choose to complete any number of laps to reach their desired goal, with specific milestones recognized:
- 3 km
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Half Marathon (3 laps)
- Marathon (6 laps)
- 50 km
- Ultra Marathon (7 or more laps)
The event includes an aid station at the start and finish of each lap, offering a selection of sweet and savoury snacks, fruit, and vegan options. All finishers who complete at least 3 km receive a medal. Additional distance pins are awarded to those who complete a half marathon, marathon, 50 km, or ultra distance.
Facilities at Dare Valley Country Park include toilets, free parking, and an on-site cafe. There are no dedicated changing rooms or showers available. Runners may leave bags at the start/finish area, though there is no secure storage. Bone-conducting headphones are the only type of headphones permitted during the run.
