The Smurf Run - Wales

The Smurf Run is organised by Saturn Running at Dare Valley Country Park in Aberdare. The event is a seven hour Time Challenge that lets participants choose how many laps to complete. The minimum completed distance to be an official finisher is 3 km.

The course uses well maintained footpaths around the country park with views of the surrounding countryside and is described as suitable for a road trainer. The regular lap measures 7 km (4.37 miles) but may be changed to a 3.28 mile loop depending on course conditions. There are 3 km and 5 km turn points on the lap to enable compliance with UK Athletics age rules.

Distances offered include:

  • 3 km minimum (part of a lap)
  • 7 km lap (4.37 miles; may change to 3.28 miles)
  • Half marathon - 3 laps
  • Marathon - 6 laps
  • 50 km and ultra options
  • Time Challenge - seven hour window

Finishers who complete at least 3 km receive a themed medal. Additional distance pins are awarded for half-marathon and longer distances and are attached to the medal ribbon. Finishers receive a goody bag with a vegan option. Aid and drinks tables are available at the start and finish of each lap. Venue facilities include toilets, a nearby cafe, free parking and a non secure bag drop. Bone conducting headphones only are permitted. Events are held on public footpaths so runners should be considerate of other users. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
