Saturn 7 Hour Time Challenge - Gilesgate

Gilesgate, United Kingdom • 13 Dec 2026

Event Overview

The Snow Globe Gallop Bobble Hat Run is a trail event held along a stretch of the River Wear in Durham. The course provides views of the local Cathedral and follows public footpaths along the riverside. This event is a 7 hour time challenge, giving participants the opportunity to determine their own distance within the allotted timeframe.

The route consists of a loop, typically measured at 7 km (4.37 miles). Depending on the condition of the course, this loop may be adjusted to a 5.28 km (3.28 mile) circuit. The minimum distance required to be recognized as an official finisher is 3 km, and specific turn points at 3 km and 5 km are marked to accommodate younger participants and UK Athletics distance regulations.

Distances and Course

Participants can choose to complete various distances based on the number of laps finished:

  • 21.1 km (Half Marathon): 3 laps
  • 42.2 km (Marathon): 6 laps
  • 50 km: Specific distance available
  • Ultra Marathon: 7 laps or more

The trail is fully signed to assist with navigation. The event is open to runners of all abilities as well as walkers. Age restrictions apply for longer distances, with participants required to be at least 20 years old to run over 45 km.

Facilities and Support

An aid station is located at the start and finish of each lap, offering water and a variety of sweet and savoury snacks, including vegan-friendly options. Participants have access to toilets and changing facilities at the race headquarters within the Durham Amateur Rowing Club. A bag drop area is provided, though it is not staffed. Finishers receive a themed medal, a distance-specific pin for those completing a half marathon or further, a goody bag, and a bobble hat.
