SATURN Scare Bear Run 2026 - North

This is a 7 hour timed trail event on public paths along the River Wear in Durham, with views of the Cathedral. The course is fully signed and lap-based, so participants choose how many laps to complete. The event is classed as trail and is held at Durham Amateur Rowing Club, Green Ln, Old Elvet, Durham DH1 3JU. The event date is Sunday, 11 October 2026.

Distances and lap structure:

• Minimum 3 km (part of a lap)
• Full lap 7 km or 4.37 miles
• Alternate loop may be 3.28 miles depending on course conditions
• Half marathon requires 3 laps
• Marathon requires 6 laps
• 50 km and ultra distances available

Completion of at least 3 km qualifies as an official finish and earns a themed medal. Finishers receive a goody bag; a vegan goody bag option is offered. Distance pins are available for half-marathon, mega-half, marathon, 50 km and ultra achievements and one pin will be attached to the medal ribbon.

Aid and logistics: a drinks and aid table is provided at the start/finish each lap with drinks and savoury and sweet snacks including vegan options. Toilets and changing facilities are available at race headquarters. A bag area is provided but it is unstaffed and items are left at the participant’s own risk. Headphones are permitted. Maximum entries 300; minimum age 12. Anyone running over 45 km must be 20 years or older; 18 and 19 year olds may run up to 45 km. Final instructions are emailed 7-10 days before the event and numbers are collected on race day at registration. Parking is available on nearby streets or in city centre pay and display car parks.
