SATURN - A Christmas Carol Bobble Hat Run - North takes place on Sunday, 14 December 2025 at Durham Amateur Rowing Club, Green Ln, Old Elvet, Durham DH1 3JU. The event is a 7 hour timed challenge on a flat, fully signed trail along the River Wear with views of the Cathedral. Maximum entrants are 300 and entries close on 13/12/2025. Bobble hat entries are sold out; entries from 6 November include a running buff.

Facilities, distances and rules

  • Minimum: 3 km (official finisher receives medal and buff)
  • Lap: 7 km (4.37 miles) - possible alternative 3.28 mile loop
  • Half marathon: 3 laps
  • Marathon: 6 laps
  • Ultra: 7+ laps; 50 km option available

A 3k turn point and 5k turn point are marked inside the lap to meet UK Athletics age rules. Distance pins are given for half-marathon, mega-half, marathon, 50km and ultra achievements. Aid and drinks tables are available at the start/finish of each lap with snacks and vegan options. All finishers receive a goody bag; a vegan goody bag option is available. Toilets and changing facilities are provided at the venue HQ. Free on-street parking and pay-and-display city centre parking are nearby. A bag drop is available but not secure. Headphones are allowed. Transfers and deferrals are available subject to organiser terms and fees. Minimum age 12 years; participants over 45 km must be 20 years or older; 18-19 year olds may run up to 45 km. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Silent Night Race is a challenging night fell run to Chapelfell Top under starlight, testing navigation on rough, pathless terrain. Strict kit and proof of prior off path navigation are required, and entry is adults only.

Celebrate the season at Chopwell Woods on 21 December 2025 with festive trail routes for family 1 mile, 4 mile and 8 mile runners through atmospheric woodland. Finishers get medals and mince pies and canicross is welcome.

Join the Guisborough Woods Fell Race, a tough 5.5 mile three lap forest course with steep climbs and technical slippery descents. Part of the Dave Parry Lets Run Winter Series, it welcomes seniors, teams and juniors.

Celebrate New Year with the classic Captain Cooks Fell Race in Great Ayton on 1 January 2026. A challenging lap to Captain Cook's Monument across steep muddy trails and forest, organised by volunteers with proceeds to charity.
