Sanders Saunter Charity Race : Clinton State Park, Overlook Park (Shelter 1)
Sanders Saunter is an annual charity trail run presented by the Lawrence Trail Hawks, held at Overlook Park at Clinton Lake (Shelter 1), 798 N 1402 Rd, Lawrence, KS. The event offers three trail distances and a 50K cutoff of nine hours.
All races start and finish at Shelter 1. The course uses marked park trails: runners follow the white trail, turn south on the yellow trail to ascend and descend Sanders Mound, and return to the white trail. The 10K continues to the Lake Henry aid station and returns on the blue trail before repeating the mound and finishing at Shelter 1. The 25K includes a single trip to Sanders Mound and follows the white trail to a connector trail near Mile Marker 9, descending to the blue trail toward the finish. The 50K consists of two loops of the 25K course with a mound trip at the start of each loop.
Aid stations are provided, including Lake Henry, Lands End, and Start/Finish, with several stations located at key mile points on the course. Runners in the 25K and 50K are required to carry a handheld or hydration pack; drop bags are available at Lands End and at Start/Finish.
Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in each race and to the first non-binary finisher in each race. Dogs are permitted if leashed and controlled, and owners must clean up after them. Race policies note that bibs are non-transferable, upgrades or distance changes incur pro-rata charges, and refunds or deferrals are not allowed. The event includes a Hero Runner fundraising program with tiered rewards and a deadline for donations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
