Sand to Serengeti Trail Race
The Sand to Serengeti is a trail running event held at Green Lakes State Park. The course takes participants through the natural landscapes of Central New York, featuring paths that wind around glacial lakes and through open fields. The event offers two distinct distances:
- 10 miles
- 3 miles
The 10 mile course begins at the sandy beach area of Green Lakes. It follows the trails around Round Lake before ascending into an area known locally as the Serengeti. After navigating the upper fields, the route descends back toward the lakes and concludes at the beach. Runners in this distance receive a finisher medal, and cash prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers.
The 3 mile course is designed for those seeking a shorter trail experience. This route also starts at the beach and circles the two lakes before returning to the finish line. Participants in this category receive a choice of swag items such as a sports towel, buff, or drawstring bag, while the top two male and female finishers receive ribbon awards.
The event includes a water-only aid station located at the intersection of mile 2 and mile 6.5. This facility operates on a carry-in, carry-out policy to maintain the park environment. Parking is available in the lots adjacent to the beach, and permanent park bathroom facilities are open for participant use. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
