Sand to Serengeti
Sand to Serengeti is a trail race held at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, New York on May 17, 2026. The event uses marked trails that pass beaches, lakes, and open fields and is part of the Salty Miles Trail Series. Free race day photos are provided.
The event offers two distances:
- 10 mile trail passing Round Lake and the area locally called the Serengeti
- 3 mile trail circling the lakes and returning to the beach
Course details note a sandy beach start, routing around Round Lake, a higher section called the Serengeti for the 10 mile, and a final descent back to the beach. Water aid stations are placed on the course; athletes are advised to carry hydration or nutrition as needed because aid is water only. Park bathrooms will be open and parking is available in the lots by the beach.
Swag and awards include a finisher medal for 10 mile participants and choice items for 3 mile entrants. Cash prizes are listed for top finishers in the 10 mile and ribbons for top finishers in the 3 mile. Packet pick-up is handled through Fleet Feet in East Syracuse. The event supports local businesses and a charity partner, Safe Space Organization. Participants are asked to wear appropriate footwear and accept race liability terms.
